Bangkok: day 1
It cannot be said that Mike did not roll out the red carpet when arrived in Bangkok. It was early in the morning and he took the day off to come and welcome us. After a long and extremely multinational customs line, we were in with no fuss. Mike met us after customs and shuttled us into a rented BMW (with driver of course), the bags taking a while to Tetris into the trunk.
Seeing him again after 3 months was NOT the movie slow mo' scene of a Richard Curtis film. A quick peck and a sweaty hug was the best we could do in a crowded airport, stress and exhaustion taking over.
We drove into Bangkok on big modern highways and it wasn't until we got to side streets that we really saw that we were in Asia. The things we expected were everywhere; motorbikes, street dogs, people eating outside, lush trees, spaghetti power lines and manic traffic.
Mike dropped us at Health Land where we had detailed and thorough massages. For 4 hours. Delirious with our all nighters we slept through most of them but we were definitely clean and relaxed after!
At "home" I saw our digs in real life and Rebecca got her first look. She was as impressed as mike hoped. Our laundry had been done and our bags semi-unpacked, a treat I was so grateful for.
