Those Stinky Khlongs
As part of Knox and Kallin's (reciprocal website link) fully-rounded tour of Bangkok, I took chose to get them to the Old town the worst way. Well, second worst to Monsoon traffic...the khlong. The khlongs are the old-school highways of Bangkok, the venice of the East. Most of them have been paved over, but the ones that remain host a brisk ferry service for commuters.
You have to hop on and hop off really quickly, and you must stand to indicate that you want the ferry to stop. The guy/girl who takes the fare walks around the outside of the boat, reaching in to get your money. It's quite a balancing act.
