Rebecca's Obituary
Rebecca Mary Dowling, 30, of Dublin, Ireland died on May 3rd 2019 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral.
The third of six children, she was born in Celbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland. She immigrated to Cape Coral with her family in 1997 and attended Cape Coral High School. After graduation, she moved to Geneva, Switzerland to work as a Nanny, and then on to Melbourne, Australia for 2 years. In 2009, she moved to London to pursue a career in Public Relations. During her time at Bacchus PR, she handled restaurant openings, awards galas, and product launches. In 2015, she moved to Bangkok, Thailand with her sister and brother-in-law. She spent two and a half years as a PR specialist for Minor Hotel group, working on-site in the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Oman and Qatar. She returned to live in Ireland in 2018 with aspirations to study Dietetics and Nutrition, but was diagnosed with cancer soon after. When no further treatment was available, she chose to return to Cape Coral to spend time with her family.
In her scarce free time, she like to play GAA football, run and practice yoga. She loved to travel especially for the food, and wanted to surf more.
Rebecca could connect people in a way that few possess. She was instantly likeable, funny, kind and real; and she drew to her a collection of friends and loved ones from all over the world. She gave other people most of her time, because so many people wanted it. She was always busy and in demand, and her network was her most prized possession. Through travel, music, dancing and adventure, she wove a special thread through all our lives. We who were lucky to know her, knew to cherish her in the moment, and cherish those moments now.
Rebecca is survived by her parents, Mary and Donal Dowling, her sisters Jessica Dowling Hammer, Hannah Dowling, Laura Dowling and Leah Dowling, and her brother Stephen Dowling. Her brother-in-law Michael Hammer, her nieces Leanna Dowling-Sanford and Emma Dowling, and nephews Cael Dowling and Noah Dowling will all miss her greatly.
A Catholic mass will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 11am at St.Katharine Drexel Church in Cape Coral.
In Lieu of Flowers, please make a memorial contribution to Hope Hospice Fort Myers.
