Mary goes to Phuket
We took Mom to SO MANY PLACES around Bangkok. We hit all the spots on our list during her month with us. We took a rainy roadtrip down to Rayong, which did not show off the best of Thailand.
The Anantara Layan experience was hotly anticipated by Rebecca and I. We had a deep desire to impress our Mom with their famous hospitality, perfect landscaping and tropical pools. She wanted a tan.
Despite the rainy start, we had a wonderful weekend wandering the beach and grounds, trying the pools and the spa. Mom was vert impressed with the floating gardens, planters and beautifully-thought out foliage.
She made a very valiant but futile attempt to clean the beach. It was hard to explain to her that this was a clean beach by Thai standards, with a multitude of staff sweeping and lifting all morning to get it guest-ready. The steady of stream of trash from boats and dumps creates an endless task for the crews. What's removed one day has returned the next, with nobody in control but the consumers who create the trash.
