This is the story of how life can change too fast. From Asian beaches to Irish chemo wards, we document it here.
I foolishly used to tell myself I was organized. I didn't have a junk drawer, I didn't have that much stuff. What was I thinking?
After a frantic week of packing, Mike was ready with his 4 giant duffel bags. We did the obligatory late night Walmart run. I filled a bag with a pretty random selection of things I knew I didn't need for a while, like party dresses, heels and some Barry's tea. Pretty useless in retrospect, but I was weeks away from being ready to pack.
We announce on Facebook that we are moving to Thailand. I tried to lean it out like we were annoucning a pregnancy...it worked on like 2 people!
The culmination of Mike's road trip was a visit to his old stomping ground:Traverse City, Michigan. I had been there once before, possibly before we were even married. We camped on the lawn of his family cottage and did some swimming, which is all I remember.
Of course we all know how cool that area has become in recent years so I was dying to get back up there. On short notice we booked the last VRBO in a 50 mile radius along with Will and Kristin, friends from High School who live in Indiana.
For many reasons I'm going to spare you the ins and outs of the job search, interview and negotiations. Suffice it to say, there was a day when he signed a contract.
I was still really apprehensive about the move but there was nothing left to discuss, so I looked Mike right in the eyes, mine wet, and said, "I trust you let's do this".
